About: I teach handwork at City of Fountains School, a local Waldorf school. I will soon be opening Maypop School of Handcraft in the Brookside neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri, as a personal studio, community workshop and a small retail space

I’m Lauren, owner and artist behind Maypop School of Handwork. I’m a formerly trained Waldorf handwork educator and I have the dream job of helping others connect with our natural world through fiber arts. My intentional approach to teaching is one that recognizes handwork as a therapeutic art form. From the nourishing experience of hands-on, tactile connection to the use of natural materials, which innately have nurturing qualities and the capacity to heal. My love for fiber crafts extends beyond the creation of beautiful, practical objects; I’m deeply inspired by the transformative qualities of handwork as it benefits body and soul.

My mission at Maypop is to foster creativity and well-being for individuals of all ages through the magic of handcrafts. At the school – during camps, classes and workshops for individuals of many interests and skill sets – we’re not only creating functional pieces of art, but a sense of wonder for the natural world around us. I hope to inspire gratitude for all that we can create with our hands, our minds and our natural world.
